CHEAH SEE SIANG

Cheah See Siang Director of Research (PNGOPRA)

Cheah See Siang was appointed in December 2019 as Director of Research of PNGOPRA and he also holds the position as Head of NBPOL Research since September 2019. His key roles include but not limited to the coordination of research efforts for the oil palm industry in PNG such as developing advanced agricultural practices and developing better planting materials.

He joined PNGOPRA in December 2019 upon Dr Luc Bonneau’s retirement. He is currently positioned at Dami Research Station in West New Britain Province in PNG from where he operates and resides.

He began his career with Sime Darby Research Sdn. Bhd in Malaysia as a junior agronomist and since then he advanced his career to the current positions. He has 23 years of working experience in oil palm. He led Oil Palm Research Team in Malaysia conducting trials related to oil palm nutrition, agronomy, physiology, precision agriculture and crop protection. He also led an advisory team managing about 50,000 ha oil palm on matters related to fertilizer recommendation and agricultural best practices.

He obtained his Bachelor of Horticultural Science and Master of Science from University Putra Malaysia (UPM) and he is currently pursuing PhD with UPM.
