Research Activities

Currently there are 9 active research projects under the section. All of the projects are funded by levy from the industry except for one project that is funded by an external donor. Most of the projects are based in West New Britain Province but a few are based in other provinces where there are oil palm projects. The projects listed as per the project ID include:

  1. ENT08: Improvement to the biocontrol programmes for sexavae and stick insects (WNB- Levy).
  2. ENT11: Investigation into the biology and management options of the Milne Bay Coconut Flat Moth (CFM) (Milne Bay- Levy).
  3. ENT13: Study on the biology of the Birdwing Butterfly (WNB- Levy).
  4. ENT14: Study into the pheromone trap placement options for the Oryctes rhinoceros beetle management (NI- Levy).
  5. ENT18: Study into the biology and management of Bogia Coconut Syndrome (BCS) (Madang- Donor, ACIAR).
  6. ENT20: Establishment of distribution and evaluation of control options for the invasive Little Fire Ant (LFA), Wasmania auropuntata (WNB- Levy).
  7. ENT21: Investigation into the efficacy and the field infection rate of the Entomopathogenic fungus of Stick Insects (WNB, Northern- Levy).
  8. ENT22: Investigation into the distribution of the Guam biotype Oryctes rhinoceros (CRB-G) and fallen palm trunk decay rate (WNB, Central- Levy).
  9. ENT23: Study into the infection of the WNB parthenogenetic Segestes decoratus by mainland Stichotrema dallatoreanum (Madang, Morobe, WNB- Levy).
