On-Farm Demonstration blocks

Demonstration blocks is an effective extension tool to applied research and demonstrate best management practices (BMP) in oil palm as a means of minimizing current yield gaps and realizing yield potentials in the smallholder sector. In this project, poorly managed blocks with low yields are selected, rehabilitated to BMP standard. Block owners of those blocks including those within the vicinity are attend organized trainings and demonstrations by our technical staffs on common oil palm standard practices such as 4 rights of fertiliser (right type, rate, placement and timing), pruning standards, cover crop sowing and maintenance, weed control, regular harvesting and pest and disease surveillance. The section has on-farm demo blocks in all the sites as seen from the Table 1. For Bialla, work has ceased end of 2017 and all the 5 BMP blocks have been closed, whereas for the other sites, the blocks are still maintained.
