The section conducts pest infestation surveys and provides control recommendations to the industry. As much as possible, the integrated approach of control involving the use of a range of control measures is promoted with the aim of minimizing heavy reliance on chemical use. The approach taken for this exercise is where the industries (plantations and smallholders) report the infestation detection to the section through the completion of an inspection request form. The section team then conducts damage assessment and issues recommendation, recommending whether to monitor or treat depending on the level of infestation. Light infestation is normally recommended for monitoring, whilst moderate and severe levels are normally recommended for treatment.
