The Mama Loose Fruit Executive in Hoskins Oil Palm Project hosted a 3-day Women in Agriculture Show from the 14th to the 16th of October 2020. The celebrations also coincided with the International Day of Rural Women and World Food Day on the 15th and 16th October respectively. The show also featured 24 years of the Mama Loose Fruit Scheme in the province. Different women groups, business houses, government departments like DAL and Fisheries, and oil palm stakeholders (OPIC, NBPOL and OPRA) put up stalls to either display or promote their products and what they are doing. A women group from ENB also participated in the 3-day show.
PNGOPRA was represented, by staffs from Smallholder and Socioeconomic Research (SSR), the Entomology and Plant Pathology sections. Our Staffs did exceptionally well in disseminating information and research outcomes to the showgoers. A total of 114 showgoers passed PNGOPRA stall.
On the last day of the show, prizes been awarded to the first and runner up women groups under various categories. PNGOPRA also donated an oven to one of the winning women’s group.
The show committee and WNB provincial government have agreed to make the WIA show an annual event, and there are now plans to make it bigger and better next year.
