ACIAR Project Mid-Term Review

The mid-term review for one of the ACIAR Funded projects on “Identifying opportunities and constraints for rural women’s engagement in small-scale agricultural enterprises in PNG” was successfully held at Genesis Haven, Kimbe, West New Britain on March 6th 2019. The collaborating partners who were also present at the 1 day review included representatives from Cocoa Board (formally CCI), Coffee Industry Corporation (CIC), PNG University of Technology, Care International, Curtin University and PNGOPRA. Over 50 participants from NBPOL’s Smallholder department, Hargy Oil Palm’s Community Affairs department, OPIC Hoskins, Mama Loose Fruit executives, NBPOL WEW, women’s representatives to the Provincial Government and Talasea District, Provincial DAL, Kimbe Town Market, NGOs, PV trainer and other successfully business women entrepreneurs attended the review. Also present where two women representatives from a Village Savings and Loans Group from Bena in the Eastern Highlands Province. This is meeting is the first of its kind to focus on women in business and also first forum in WNB where we see participation from different stakeholders, including both government and non-government organizations to discuss the topic on women in agribusiness. The ACIAR Program Manager for ASEM projects Dr. Jayne Curnow was also present and said it was one of the better meetings she has attended because it had such great audience participation and the panel discussions were informative.
